Communication and Cultures in Contact in the Age of Globalization

There are many areas where languages and cultures meet and consequently the research on the relationship between language and culture seem reasonable. In times of constantly accelerating globalization we would like to focus on the processes of linguistic and cultural contacts. The simultaneous processes of de- and reborderization as well as the ongoing armed conflicts in Europe and around the world, have an impact not only on the redefinition of the global order, but also on language and cultural contacts, language policies and the semiotic landscapes. Then, taking into account the fact that cultural conceptualisations are entrenched or embedded in many features of human languages, we are also interested in topics within anthropological-, cultural- and ethnolinguistics.

Researchers working on the following issues are invited to participate in our panel:

  • language contact and cultural differences and similarities,
  • interplay between language and identity,
  • language policy and planning,
  • minority and endangered languages,
  • cultural transfer and cultural transmission,
  • linguistic/semiotic landscape,
  • topics within antropological linguistics and ecolinguistics.

This session is aimed at sharing research ideas in the above-mentioned areas from both theoretical and empirical perspectives.
